Part one (kind of scary)

A rough but manicured finger rubbed back and forth over the soft, smooth skin of Lex's upper lip. Bored. Hot. Sleepy. The ultimate failing of living in a castle was the ventilation system. Lex's loft in Metropolis was infinitely more comfortable at any point in the year.

Just then, the Warrior Angel theme played on Lex's cell phone.

"Clark?" Lex perked up and raised his brows as he leaned back in his chair.

"Um, Lex?" Clark's tremulous voice asked. "Could you come over please? I… need you."

Lex straightened up immediately. "What's wrong? Where are you?"

"I… I um… At the house… Gosh, Lex, there's a-"

Lex heard the phone clacking to the floor as though dropped and a startled cry from Clark. He stood abruptly.

"Clark? Clark!" He was out the door and into his car before he'd thought about how he was going to deal with whatever was threatening Clark. A gun would have been helpful.

Pulling up in front of the Kent farmhouse, Lex leapt out of his car and rushed up to the front door. He peered in the window cautiously before opening the front door and slinking inside. Walking slowly, he kept his eyes sharp for anything amiss. That was when he heard a soft, unhappy moan from Clark.

"Just, please go away!" It was coming from the kitchen.

Lex slipped up to the door and slowly looked around the corner. Maybe he could use Mr. Kent's gun-

"Son of a…" Lex gaped as he spotted what had Clark so freaked out. "What the hell is that?"

Clark looked back from the chair he was perched on with wide, hopeful eyes. "Make it go away?"

Staring in disbelief, Lex shook his head and raised his hand. "Just back away from it. Come with me."

"I'm not getting down until that 'thing' is gone. Wolf spiders jump!" Clark replied in a pained and embarrassed voice.

"Wolf… spider?" Lex blinked at the enormous, hairy spider that was at least the size of Clark's hand. It seemed content to chill on the blue and gray patterned tile of the kitchen floor, but Lex found himself frozen where he was. He'd never seen a spider that big before. Not even close. The city spiders at his loft in Metropolis were cute, by comparison. "Christ."

"Unnnn…" Clark whined.

Lex stiffened his lower lip. He could hardly leave Clark up there. The young man was afraid of heights. He rolled up his sleeves. "Hold on."

"Don't leave!" Clark pleaded as Lex darted out of the room.

Lex returned holding a broom and scanned the floor again quickly. "Alright, beastie. It's time to head on home."

"Careful, Lex." Clark averted his eyes as Lex approached the horrifying spider with determination.

"Go. Go on. Move. Ah! FUCK!"

Clark swiveled around and spotted Lex grabbing a four-quart pot from the dish drainer.

"Are you okay, Lex?"

"It bit me."

"Lex?"

"I'll pay for the pot," Lex said simply as he closed in on the monstrous spider that was now scurrying for the corner.

A clanging sound rang out as Lex slammed the pot down on the spider with all of his strength.

Clark swallowed. "Is… Is it?"

"Squashed flat. It's safe." Lex curled his lip up, and dropped the pot in the trash. "That is disgusting. Is it a mutant?"

"Uh, no. Well, it's not the size that's strange." Clark lifted his chin and looked over the floor, just to check, before he tentatively lowered a foot onto the floor. "Wolf spiders get pretty big. Usually they stay out in the garden, though. Dad'll have to check the house for places it might've gotten in."

"I have to say, as a city boy, this experience has rather unsettled my foundations." Lex looked up to Clark and put a hand on his bicep. "You alright?"

"Uh, yeah, I guess. I feel kind of silly." Clark looked down at his shoes.

Lex grimaced and rubbed Clark's arm. "Are you kidding? That spider was a force of nature."

Clark laughed softly. "Uh, yeah, I guess."

"You still feel jumpy? I feel like my skin is crawling. Why don't we get out of this room for a little bit?" Lex suggested.
