Re: Skink! Part Three (Rated PG)

“I don’t know why he told you such a thing, Clark. Maybe he was mistaken himself, maybe he was sadistic and just liked to scare young children, or maybe there’s another cause we can’t guess. Whatever the case may be, what he said is false. There is no lizard that would try and crawl inside a human being using any orifice, let alone the ass.

“But, Lex…”

“No. It isn’t possible, Clark. If you’ve ever touched yourself back there, then you know that that entryway takes some pressure to get through. A small animal like…”

“Lex! Why would I touch myself back there enough to know that? That would be…weird…wouldn’t it?”

Lex takes a deep breath. This isn’t where he’d pictured a conversation with Clark to ever go. Still, there was no reason not to answer. “Some people find it pleasurable to touch themselves there, especially when masturbating.”

“Really?!”

Clark looks intrigued, and Lex really needs to not think about what that might mean that Clark would be willing to try the next time he…Oh, God. Lex definitely needs to change mental tracks here. “Yes, really. But that’s beside the point, Clark. We were…”

“Do you?”

“Do I…? Well…” Lex looks up at Clark and can’t resist those wide, green eyes or the look of fascinated curiosity on his friend’s face. “Yes. Yes, I do.”

The turn this conversation has taken is getting increasingly uncomfortable for Lex, especially since Clark is still holding onto him and starting to look at him speculatively. He gently disentangles himself from Clark and steps away, trying to make it as natural as possible and keeping his lower body well away from his friend. Then he turns the conversation back to Clark’s misinformation.

“Clark, if you don’t believe me about the lizard, then why don’t you use Google and search for information on the animal. You won’t find anything on a gut-eating skink, I can promise you that. Or look up the diet of the skink in general and you’ll find that human flesh isn’t on their menu at all.”

Clark smiles at him, and Lex swears that the already bright room gets even brighter. “I don’t need to do that, Lex. I trust you. You were the first person I called for help after all. Besides, you’re the smartest person I know. You wouldn’t be wrong about something like that. I just never even thought to question what I was told back then by the adults around me. I feel kind of silly now and bad about having you kill an innocent lizard just because I was afraid.”

Lex feels a warm glow at the thought that Clark trusts him, at least about something, and at knowing that Clark had called him first. He doesn’t like it when the light starts to go out of his friend’s eyes at the end though.

He squeezes Clark’s bicep, with the intent of being reassuring, and holds Clark’s gaze to emphasize his sincerity. “Clark, you shouldn’t feel silly at all, or bad. Children can take what they’re told by adults entirely too much to heart. There was no reason for you not to believe what that man told you. He was the parent of a friend, so of course you trusted him. He’s the one that should feel guilty about traumatizing a young boy, and he’s the one ultimately responsible for the death of this animal. He should never have told you something like that, especially since he obviously never told you the truth later. He doesn’t, by any chance, still live around here, does he?”

“No, Lex, he doesn’t. And I won’t tell you his name either. Maybe he was mean, but he doesn’t deserve your wrath this long after the fact.”

Lex manfully resists commenting on that. He does indeed think the man deserves something for his cruel lies, but he won’t push it…for now. He can always try to find out some other way, or wait until this incident is a distant memory for Clark and then ask some questions designed to get the information he wants.
