[identity profile] ladydreamer.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] old_school_clex
I've been blue so I thought I'd do some rewatching of the seasons that deserve it. If anyone wants to join in on the rewatching, we could talk about a schedule for the community to rewatch, or just post some observations as you do. I got some caps from [livejournal.com profile] acampbell after I did a few to illustrate the Clex.

"Pilot"

Gosh, the show is so pretty. And the first shots are of Lex and Clark both flying. And I'm sure, considering Clark's later fear of heights, both enjoying it equally.

I love the first scene of the Kent Family together. Martha being momish. She has things going on in her life. In season one she was busy, and took classes (in what, do you suppose?). Jonathan is kind of strict, but in a protective way, and Clark, well, he's a smart ass. Hee.

Glug
Raised on a farm.

I just didn't want to be a total loser my whole life. :P

Jonathan telling Clark of his origins: "It's not written in any language known to man..." (Because Jonathan knows all human languages.)

We get Lana of the graveyard. She who is all alone, despite her doting aunt, boyfriend, and tons of friends and stalkers alike. Lana says her father has a "twisted sense of humor" in reference to her joking that Clark might be upset about a guy. Being gay isn't a joke or twisted, Lana.

Lex is so passionate, flinging his foil against the wall in the heat of the moment. Fling!

Whee! the first scene in Lex's study. Where he works, exercises, takes, fucks, sleeps... and I assume he eats there occasionally, if he ever eats.

Do you believe a man can fly?

"We have a future, Clark. And I don't want anything to get in the way of our friendship." ~ Lex

Really, that line is gayer than most from Queer as Folk. Lex looks so freshly vulnerable in the scene in his office, which is an odd contrast to the previous setting where he's flinging swords. I think Clark brings out the vulnerability in him.

I aaam what I aaam!

I love in this pilot the way that Lex and Clark save one another. First, of course, is Clark saving Lex at the river, pulling him out of the water. Clark gives him the kiss of life. Lex looks up at him in awe.

Touched by an angel

Then later, in an allusion to Christ or Mathew Shepard, Clark is attacked and strung up in a field with Kryptonite around his neck. He could have died of exposure to Kryptonite, but since he saved Lex earlier, he's still alive, still out there. He hears him and remembers the boy in the field he didn't save years ago. He unties Clark.

Owie :(

And you know what they say: You save a life and it's yours? They own each other. :P

(I also like Clark being playful and stacking those jerkfaces' trucks.)

Karma's a bitch

"Metamorphosis" aka Lana's First Stalker (not including Clark)!

Papa ROACH's "Last Resort" is the music we're listening to when Greg Samsa is attacked by his bugs. I admit I think the reference in the music is pretty funny.(It would have been fun if Lana had bug powers after this ep, wouldn't it? Maybe she did and we just didn't know it. Bzzz yezzz my queeen!)

Clark dreams of superstalking flying into Lana's room.

I miss the wide open air scenes, don't you? It's just so bright and pritty. Clark is so jealous of Whitney in this scene it's no joke. His father gives his approbation to Whitney for being a football star; Clark pouts.

"I was a little tied up." Hee. Take that Whit. Hate crimes are not cool.

Clark checks Lex out.
Wow, nice package, er, pants

"Even the Roman's saved that for special occasions!" Lex moves to Clark's defense and tries to find a way to keep Clark's attention for more than a few minutes. Clark scurries off to help his father with the fair, no doubt somewhat intimidated by Lex's shameless flirting.

Damn, that's good farmboy!

I wonder if that apple was sour. Lex didn't seem to like it.

Blech!

And yet he orders produce from their crappy organic farm anyway. That's love, that is.

People in Smallville shouldn't be allowed to drive. They're no good at it. That's two episodes and two near fatal accidents in a car, Lex and Whitney.

Cows!

I've heard AlMiles ragging on TW's acting skills in the first season, but in his scenes with the older actors, he does quite well. When he looks up at his father with a puppyish expression, and he's lost and confused about his powers, it's completely convincing. AlMiles can bite me.

I like that Lex has little boxes hanging around to put small things in. I won't be unconvinced that Lex just wanted to give Clark the box that he symbolically keeps all of his fears and obsessions in. It's like giving Clark his heart. Sneakily.

I was so upset that he gave Lex's heart box to Lana along with the necklace. :(

I'm kidding, of course!

"Save any lives on your way over? Keep that up and you could make a career out of it!" ~Lex
You know it already, honey. Again, Lex flirts shamelessly. (Lex is like a yenta in this ep, though, with the complex machinations to get Clark and Lana near each other.)

"If you hadn't pulled him out of that truck, your problems would be solved." *flirt flirt tease* I think I once had that shade of lipstick that Lex is wearing. Massive eyesex in this scene. OMG.

Photobucket

Again with TW's acting, after his barn scene with Lana, Clark looks so conflicted. She's being nice to me... but Lex's lips are so pretty...

That's all the Clex there is so I have nothing else to say.

"Hothead"

Blah blah.. cheerleading... football...

I'm skipping down to the scene where Lex is sipping Tynant and making bratty faces at Dominic. It's delicious.

"Tell your sister I said 'hi.'" Hee.

Lex's lipstick is pretty in this ep as well. He doesn't seem to like the attention it's drawing from his father, though.

"Are you good enough to take your old man?" Creepy!

I'm fairly sure Lex can't beat his dad at chess for the same reason he can't beat him at fencing. He has a temper and Lionel knows which buttons to push. This episode brings us a nice parallel between Lionel and Jonathan both laying down the law, with no room for discussion.

"Oh, Clark... Didn't see you there... So busy working and not oogling you..."
Not distracted at all.

"Is that what you ordered?"
"Not even close."
Far too sweet!

Lionel returns to try to undercut Lex's ego. An all time hobby of Lionel's.

Lex gets some nice snark in, though.
"Careful Dad, you're getting emotional." (I'm sure Lionel has some major reasons why he doesn't want his son getting emotional. Directly related to his son's swishy hips.)
"I can't figure out what you hate more: That my plan worked or that you didn't come up with it first." (Nyah nyah)
"Dad, you have no idea what I'm capable of." (Mwa ha ha ha!!)

In the end, Jonathan says he was there to support Clark, which is a change from his earlier statement that he was there to make sure no one got hurt. But he says it in a sort of huffy way, like Clark should know that. I'm not sure why he would, when Jonathan has given him no reason to think that.

Clark and Lana scream on the field. One of the genuinely cute Clana moments, but...

Needs moar Clex.

I'd love to do an organised rewatch with post-episode discussion. Maybe an episode a week?

I've been wanting to rewatch S1 for a while now, but haven't made the time for it. It might be just the thing to watch it with a group. Let me know.

I actually just started watching the show about a month and a half ago (just started S4 but it's not doing it for me), so I would definitely be up for a rewatch! One of the things that sucks about starting a show late (in my case, really late, ahahaha) is the post-ep discussion. I am totally on board for organized rewatch!

I'd love to rewatch season one. :D I'd definitely forgotten just how innocent and adorable Clark and Lex used to be together. Sigh.

I really love this post!!
You're awesome with your ideas...
I already rewatch all the seasons plenty of times (except for the crappy season8), but I'd loooooooooooooove to have a discussion group, because I joined internet on S5, so I never was able to talk about my impression on the best Clexy part of the show.
Please, make it happen!!

I always wondered about Martha's classes, too. I figured some sort of business classes, to help with running the farm, keeping books, etc. But, really, they could've been anything. Something that required textbooks, though: not crafts or cake decorating...

I love that conversation between Bo and Whitney at the market. So many layers! Bo & Whitney seem to have a bond that Clark can never share in. I love [livejournal.com profile] suzycat's notion that Clark's crush on Lana has to do more with wanting to be WHITNEY than anything else.

They should've given Lana the canonical bug powers. Would've beaten "Power" and "Requiem" (not to mention "Wrath") by a mile!

At first I figured the produce orders were to help the struggling farm and his new friend's struggling farmer parents. But now I realize: it was mainly an excuse to get Clark stopping by the mansion with regularity. Gad, I miss those days...
