Totally Silly Farmboy Poll

Okay, this is totally silly, but also somewhat real. ;p I apparently spell "farmboy" all over the board. So instead of me just deciding on one and one alone, I thought I'd find out what everybody *else* likes! One word or two? Capitalized or not? Situational? Or do you just really hate the term at all and would rather not ever see it in a fic ever again?

I use farmboy as one word (hmm...obviously), however, whether it's capitalized or not depends on how it's used - kind of like mom/dad. If it's being used in place of Clark's name, then capitalize. If it's being used to describe him, don't. That's been my rule anyway. I'll be interested in what other's think.

The votes seem to be overwhelmly for 'farmboy' as one word, even if the dictionary doesn't recognize it. :)

{nod} I capitalize when it's addressing him directly too - though I've noticed that's also mostly when I split it into two words. Perhaps Lex (or the other characters) are emphasizing it in my mind. Maybe that's a good distinction though - farmboy for normal and Farm Boy for a form of address.

Heh, 'ticky' is just something that crops up in polls - a "ticky box" is a check box, and when you have an option to check something, you check it just because it's there. So an option for "ticky" is just giving people something to check just to check something because it's fun to check things in polls. ^^

I definitely think it's one word, and uncapitalized since it's a sort of generic noun. Like cowboy.

Though to be honest, I sort of hate it :) Which may make me a jerk, I think I've used it at least once myself in fic. Oh well! I'm ok with being a jerk :)

Yeah - it's very similar, but it hasn't yet made it into the dictionary or spell-checkers. I think it's edging it's way there, and for our fandom, it's probably closer than the rest of the world, lol. Fandom-specific spelling!

I try not to use it too often myself, but it creeps in there - it's such a common term for Clark in the fandom! o.o Hard not to start using something everybody else does. I think I remember when I didn't like it either (makes Clark sound like a stupid rent boy or something) and then I got used to it, and then I started using it too. o.O I'll have to try and remember to keep the usage to a minimum! (After this story ;p)

I think you're right about that connotation, and that could be what bothers me about it. You shouldn't set a barometer by me though, I'm new to the fandom and nitpicky about words on top of everything :)

To be completely honest, whenever I hear/see/talk about Clark Kent (which isn't very often any more) my very first thought is "that's not fifteen". Because when I think of Clark I think of the 15 year old Clark of Season 1-2 and how much Lex wanted to hit that and didn't, thinking of his under-age-ness, and I always want to yell at that SweetThoughtful!Lex that "that (meaning Clark) is not 15". B/c seriously, how many 15 year olds look like that?

My belief is that the kids were all 16 in S1. They got around town much too easily not to all have been driving that whole season.

As to how that works out with Clark's age having been given as 17 in S4, I think that, thanks to the influence of some kind of as-yet-undefined time warp, they were all 16 for each of the first three seasons. 8-)

That too! How can Clark's loft possibly be grand-central station when his family lives in the remote reaches, inaccessible except by car or horse? Lana and Lex, okay, but Chloe and Pete always coming by? Not until the had their licenses (and their parents let them have a car)!

No. They really said in s4 that he was still 17? o.o Wow, talk about your messed up timeline! Okay, they didn't want them to get into college yet, I guess, but they wrote *summer breaks* in each of the first seasons - pretty much definitely advanced the timeline.

Ah well, Smallville isn't exactly known for adhering to it's own canon. ;p

LOL, yeah... they tried their best, but they just couldn't make him look like a real teenager. Somebody has some real teenage pictures of Tom Welling somewhere and I drooled but at the same time was going "that - *that* is a teenager", not the Clark we got at the start.

Though it does make us feel less guilty for drooling when we *know* he's not really that young. Hey, we'll just say it's his alien genes. ;D
