Should You Need It
Clark crept into the room, a bowl of popcorn tucked underneath his arm. There were two cans of soda tucked into his loose pockets, and as he twisted sideways through a partially opened door, he winced as a icy can brushed hard against his crotch. He hissed out a breath, and did a small dance in place, trying to move the can into a more comfortable spot.
"I had no idea you were so excited about seeing the movie, Clark."
Clark winced, and turned towards the laughing voice. Lex was standing with a pale, ink-stained hand partially covering his mouth.
"That's cute, Lex. I've got really two cold cans of soda in my pockets, and it's...um...a little harsh."
Lex grinned and moved forward. "Do you need some help?"
Clark held out the bowl of popcorn with a grateful sigh, and felt a wave of shock rush over his body as Lex reached down into his pockets, instead, pulling out the sodas.
"Better?"
Clark sucked in a breath and swallowed, hard. "Um...sure. I guess. Thanks."
Lex smirked. "I'm happy to help, Clark." Moving over to the long leather couch, Lex eased himself down onto it, leaning forward to place the cans of soda on coasters laid on the coffee table. His long fingers picked up a remote, and worked the buttons, pulling up a menu on the televison screen. "So...what's it going to be?"
Settling down on the couch, Clark placed the bowl of popcorn between them, and looked attentively at the screen. "Hmm. Well, let's look at the choices. 'Hellraiser', I don't really think so. 'Nightmare on Elm Street', that guy just creeps my out. Razor fingers, for crying out loud. That's weird. 'The Shining'...um, no. My dad can do the impression of Jack Nicholson in that movie, and it's freaky, Lex. Seriously."
Rolling his eyes, Lex smiled as he watched Clark look over the options. "You know, it's Halloween. The movie is supposed to be creepy."
"I know," Clark said defensively. "It's just..."
Lex grinned and turned fully on the couch to face Clark. "Just...?"
Clark sighed and felt his face flush with heat. "Just...I'll have bad dreams."
"Oh." Lex turned away, searching his mind for the appropriate reaction. "How bad?"
Biting down hard on his lip, Clark shook his head. "After I saw 'Halloween' for the first time, I had to sleep in my parents' bed."
Throwing an arm over Clark's shoulder, Lex grinned at the young man. "Aww. That's not a big deal."
Clark covered his face with his large hands. "I was 14."
Lex couldn't help it. He buried his face in Clark's neck and burst into laughter. "Oh, Clark."
"It's not funny!"
"Of course not," Lex murmured, grinning as Clark's skin trembled against his face. "But, I think...maybe it's time that you tried again. Surely, you're old enough to watch a scary movie without needing your mom and dad."
Clark nodded. "Okay. You pick, then. Something you think I'll like."
Lex forced himself up and away from the warm body on the couch. He moved to the DVD case, thumbing through the titles until he grinned upon coming across one. "I think I found one."
Lex pushed the movie into the player and sat back down next to Clark, reaching into the bowl on Clark's lap to grab a handful of popcorn.
"What is it?" Clark whispered, looking over at Lex.
Grinning, Lex shook his head. "Just wait, impatient boy." They settled down together, shoulders and thighs flush against one another. "But, um...if it does give you any problems, I just want you to know. My bed will be available, should you need it."
Clark swallowed and nodded. "In case it's too scary?"
The credits started. Two sets of eyes watched, one in amusement, one in confused exasperation, as the theme song for 'It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!' started playing.
Lex smirked. "In case whatever."
