Skink! Part One (Rated PG)

Lex is enjoying a leisurely Saturday morning breakfast for once. Normally he isn’t one to indulge in so much relaxation, but he’d woken up in a rare, lazy mood and decided to embrace it. He isn’t even reading the business section of this weekend’s newspaper.

During breakfast itself he’d done the crossword puzzle in the back. He’s disappointed at how few challenging clues there’d been. The Daily Planet really needs to get a new puzzle master. He briefly considers starting another side business. After all, he could probably come up with some fairly challenging puzzles. The flaw in that is that he then wouldn’t be able to enjoy doing them.

He shelves the idea and gets up to pour his last cup of coffee into his favorite lavender mug. Then, as a final indulgence for the morning, he turns to the comic strips and starts searching for the few he likes to keep up on. Of course, he’s saving the best for last. Warrior Angel always leaves him with a warm glow when he’s done.

Just as he’s about to begin reading Warrior Angel, his phone rings. He actually feels a much bigger glow spreading through him than he ever gets from his favorite comic. That’s the ring tone he assigned to Clark. Not even aware of the big smile that spreads over his face, he flips open his phone. “Hello, Clark. What can I…”

“Lex! Help! I’m at home by myself and I need you…”

Lex doesn’t wait to hear any more. He races out of the dining room, through the mansion, and bursts out of the front door. He’s glad that he’d asked one of the staff to bring around his new Ferrari. He’d been planning on taking it out after breakfast and opening her up on the empty Kansas roads, but now he leaps into it and drives faster than a speeding bullet to the Kent farm.

His mind is racing faster than the car as he flips through possibilities for what could be so wrong that Clark would have to call him for help. He wishes he’d thought to pick up a weapon before he’d left the mansion. He also wishes that he’d kept Clark on the line so he could find out more about what was happening. Even he didn’t dare tempt fate by calling him back while he was traveling at these speeds.

Faster than ever before, but not possibly fast enough for Lex, he finds himself at the farm and he brings the Ferrari screeching to a halt. There’s a discarded lead pipe lying a few feet away, and Lex takes a few precious seconds to grab it up. He’d already figured out that Clark was probably in the house, because he’d said home, not barn or fortress in the brief phone call, so he turns in that direction after he has the pipe in his hand.

He’d given up stealth by the way he’d roared up the driveway, so he doesn’t hesitate to call out as he races through the gate and up to the porch, where he skids to a halt. “Clark! Clark, I’m here! Where are you?”

He opens the screen door and then carefully pushes on the main door so it’ll open a crack. “Lex! Lex, I’m in the kitchen! Help!”

“I’m coming, Clark!” Lex slides into the house, still being a little cautious. Because, while the likelihood of the danger being another person in the house is decreasing, Lex wants to be sure before he lowers his guard. Besides, Clark still sounds scared…no, terrified.

Lex heads to the kitchen and peeks around the corner. He does a quick visual reconnaissance, that takes in a mostly naked Clark *Jesus H. Christ, he’s even more gorgeous than the day I found him tied up on the cross* standing on a chair, but doesn’t see any immediate danger. Clark’s staring at the floor with a look of undisguised fear on his face, but Lex can’t see around the table to know what put that look there. He lowers the pipe that’s still clenched tightly in his hand and steps into the kitchen.

“I’m here, Clark, what’s wrong?” Clark jumps a little, and Lex feels bad for breaking the focused concentration his friend had been giving to one particular spot of the wooden floor. Especially when it appears for a second as if his friend might topple from his perch.

Clark looks up, and Lex sees the mingled look of panic and relief in his face. “Lex! Thank god! Get it, please get it.” He points to the same spot he was staring at with such fear, and Lex slowly makes his way around the table, lead pipe raised in anticipation of what he would soon find.

When he finally rounds the last corner, he stares at where Clark is still nervously pointing. He glances up at Clark to be sure he’s s looking at the right place. He appears to have gotten the angle right, so he looks back at the floor to where a small lizard is sunning itself in a bright patch on the kitchen floor. It’s a skink if he’s not mistaken, although he isn’t sure of which kind. His mouth opens, but nothing comes out at first. He tries again, his voice tinged with his confusion. “Clark?”

“Get it, Lex! Please, please get it.”

Lex doesn’t know what it is about the skink that put such fear into Clark’s voice, but it’s Clark so he doesn’t need to know. He brings the pipe down quickly and squashes the reptile instantly and then looks up at Clark.

The boy is lowering himself shakily from the chair he’d been standing on, and Lex forces himself to look away when the towel wrapped around his waist gaps open a little. He swallows hard, forcing the desire down. He watches as Clark finally sits in the chair, putting his head down on the arms he rests on the table’s surface.

Lex walks up to him and puts a hand on his shoulder. He can’t resist the call of that golden skin and he also wants to help his friend recover from whatever had happened. “Clark, what was wrong with it? Was it…”

Lex gasps as Clark surges out of the chair and wraps strong, but shaking arms around Lex’s slighter frame and buries his face into Lex’s neck. “Thank you, Lex, thank you. I was so scared. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen one, and one’s never come into the house before.” His voice is muffled as he doesn’t raise his head, but Lex understands him easily enough.

Slowly Lex’s arms come up and he places them around Clark’s waist. He strokes the boy’s lower back and makes soothing sounds, to try and calm his friend down. He subtly shifts his hips away, so Clark doesn’t become aware of the affect his closeness and bare skin are having.

A sigh shudder sighs out from Clark’s mouth and Lex has to suppress his own shudder as the breath warms his neck and penetrates below the skin. He grasps Clark’s head and gently tilts it away from his own skin. Clark doesn’t really loosen his hold much, so Lex winds up looking into the prettiest face he’s ever seen on anyone from only a few inches away.

A single tear has escaped Clark’s control and is trailing down one sharply defined cheek. What Lex wants to do is lick that tear up and nuzzle his way past those lush lips. What he allows himself to do is brush that tear away with his thumb and then reach up to stroke Clark’s hair comfortingly. “Tell me, Clark. Tell me what about that lizard has you so upset and scared.”

“That was a gut-eating skink, Lex! They crawl up inside a person’s ass and lay their eggs, and when the eggs hatch they spread out and start eating.”

Lex doesn’t laugh at his friends, and he wouldn’t laugh in the face of such sincerity and fear anyway, but he does relax the guard he’d been keeping up, even after the lizard was dead. “Clark, who told you such a thing? I think someone is playing a cruel joke on you.”

Clark’s already shaking his head. “It wasn’t a friend, Lex. It was one of my friend’s parents when I was seven. I saw one and started to run up to it, hoping to catch it so I could see how it felt. That’s when he told me what they were and what they could do to a person. I said I’d run away, but he told me that they were fast and even if I did outrun them they’d catch my scent and find me when I was asleep.”

“Jesus, Clark! An adult told you that?” At Clark’s nod and small sniffle, Lex became furious on behalf of the even more innocent boy Clark must have been back then. What kind of an adult told a young child such a horror story? He continued the soft stroking of Clark’s hair and used his other hand to tip his friend’s chin up a little more. He wanted to be sure that Clark was paying attention and that his eyes weren’t still glazed over in fear.

“I don’t know why he told you such a thing, Clark. Maybe he was mistaken himself, maybe he was sadistic and just liked to scare young children, or maybe there’s another cause we can’t guess. Whatever the case may be, what he said is false. There is no lizard that would try and crawl inside a human being using any orifice, let alone the ass.

“But, Lex…”

“No. It isn’t possible, Clark. If you’ve ever touched yourself back there, then you know that that entryway takes some pressure to get through. A small animal like…”

“Lex! Why would I touch myself back there enough to know that? That would be…weird…wouldn’t it?”

Lex takes a deep breath. This isn’t where he’d pictured a conversation with Clark to ever go. Still, there was no reason not to answer. “Some people find it pleasurable to touch themselves there, especially when masturbating.”

“Really?!”

Clark looks intrigued, and Lex really needs to not think about what that might mean that Clark would be willing to try the next time he…Oh, God. Lex definitely needs to change mental tracks here. “Yes, really. But that’s beside the point, Clark. We were…”

“Do you?”

“Do I…? Well…” Lex looks up at Clark and can’t resist those wide, green eyes or the look of fascinated curiosity on his friend’s face. “Yes. Yes, I do.”

The turn this conversation has taken is getting increasingly uncomfortable for Lex, especially since Clark is still holding onto him and starting to look at him speculatively. He gently disentangles himself from Clark and steps away, trying to make it as natural as possible and keeping his lower body well away from his friend. Then he turns the conversation back to Clark’s misinformation.

“Clark, if you don’t believe me about the lizard, then why don’t you use Google and search for information on the animal. You won’t find anything on a gut-eating skink, I can promise you that. Or look up the diet of the skink in general and you’ll find that human flesh isn’t on their menu at all.”

Clark smiles at him, and Lex swears that the already bright room gets even brighter. “I don’t need to do that, Lex. I trust you. You were the first person I called for help after all. Besides, you’re the smartest person I know. You wouldn’t be wrong about something like that. I just never even thought to question what I was told back then by the adults around me. I feel kind of silly now and bad about having you kill an innocent lizard just because I was afraid.”

Lex feels a warm glow at the thought that Clark trusts him, at least about something, and at knowing that Clark had called him first. He doesn’t like it when the light starts to go out of his friend’s eyes at the end though.

He squeezes Clark’s bicep, with the intent of being reassuring, and holds Clark’s gaze to emphasize his sincerity. “Clark, you shouldn’t feel silly at all, or bad. Children can take what they’re told by adults entirely too much to heart. There was no reason for you not to believe what that man told you. He was the parent of a friend, so of course you trusted him. He’s the one that should feel guilty about traumatizing a young boy, and he’s the one ultimately responsible for the death of this animal. He should never have told you something like that, especially since he obviously never told you the truth later. He doesn’t, by any chance, still live around here, does he?”

“No, Lex, he doesn’t. And I won’t tell you his name either. Maybe he was mean, but he doesn’t deserve your wrath this long after the fact.”

Lex manfully resists commenting on that. He does indeed think the man deserves something for his cruel lies, but he won’t push it…for now. He can always try to find out some other way, or wait until this incident is a distant memory for Clark and then ask some questions designed to get the information he wants.

Suddenly he’s encased in a giant hug and being surrounded by warm, bare, golden skin. He gasps in surprise as his feet leave the floor and then has to bite back a moan as his hips brush against one of Clark’s strong thighs. Lex prays that Clark is too innocent to realize the state he’s in. It was just a slight brush, so the chances are good that it’ll go unremarked. So he hopes anyway. When he feels Clark’s lips brush his cheek, he has to bite back yet another moan. The boy’s lips are sinfully soft, and Lex hadn’t thought he’d ever get to feel them again after the riverbank.

Just as suddenly as he was embraced, Lex finds himself back on his feet and at arms length, Clark’s hands cupping his shoulders. “Thanks, Lex. You’re the best. I don’t know anyone else who would’ve helped me today without laughing at me and making me feel even stupider than I already do. I’m glad you’re my friend. I’m sorry I pulled you away from whatever you were doing for such a silly thing. I know how busy you are. I feel like such a girl right now.”

Lex bites back the first comment that springs to his lips at that last statement. It can’t do anything other than draw attention where he doesn’t want it right now. “You might not want to let Chloe hear you say such a thing. I have the feeling she’d take offense. As to the rest, I’m glad I could be here for you, Clark, and flattered that you thought to call me for help at all. I’ll always be there for you. As for busy…I was actually taking the day off for once. Why don’t you come back to the mansion with me, if you don’t have other plans? We could shoot some pool, take a swim, see a movie, or do all three if you have the time. Your choice.”

Lex was gratified by the happier light that appeared in Clark’s eyes at his invitation. “That sounds awesome, Lex. I’d love to. It’ll have to be a little later though. I have some chores to finish that my parents left for me. They got kind of postponed when I saw the lizard. Can I come over in a couple of hours instead?”

Actually, Lex is quite happy with that plan. It’d give him some time to regain control of himself. “Not a problem, Clark. Why don’t you come over at noon. We can have some lunch first, and then you can let me know what you want to do from there. How long will you have?”

Lex is treated to another smile and he feels dazzled by the happiness it contains. “All day, Lex. My parents are in Granville for a farmer’s grange meeting, then they’re treating themselves to dinner and a movie that isn’t playing in Smallville yet.”

Lex’s heart sings at the idea that he’ll have Clark to himself for that much time. “Great, Clark. I’ll see you at noon then.”

Clark watches as Lex strides out the door and continues watching as his friend takes off in a cloud of dust.

He had really learned a lot this morning and not just about the skink either. He’d learned that Lex was a true friend, he’d learned that he was really important to Lex, and, most importantly, he’d learned that Lex was attracted to him.

Clark knew he was innocent in fact, but many people mistakenly believed that he was as innocent in knowledge as well. That was impossible with debates on artificial insemination for their cows versus having them serviced by a bull as a regular part of his family’s dinner conversation. They’d done both over the years too, and he’d even observed both processes several times. Not to mention the fact that he was a guy just like Lex. He’d known exactly what he’d felt when Lex’s lower body had brushed his leg.

Clark shifts uncomfortably as his towel starts to really tent out. He's lucky that didn't happen so obviously when Lex had been here. His body had still been trying to recover from the fear he’d felt over the earlier incident. His body had reacted a little to Lex’s closeness, but he’d been able to keep Lex from discovering it.

There’s a lot to be said for being so strong that you can shift a person’s body however you want.
Clark realizes too late what he’d just thought, and he can’t stop the images that come to his mind as a result, any more than he can stop his body’s reaction to them. Great, now he needed another shower. First a cow bumps him and he takes a nose dive into the pile of manure and now this. Of course, this was a much more pleasurable reason for needing a shower. At this rate though, he was going to run the well dry.

He forces himself to push away from the doorframe. Lex is gone and he has things to do if he's going to be ready to see his friend at noon. He has to clean himself up, the poor lizard needs to be buried in the backyard, and he still has to finish the chores.

Of course, all of that will only take ten to fifteen minutes at most. The thing that’s going to take the most time is the searches he has to do on the internet. He isn’t going to be looking up skinks either. Nope. He's after something much more interesting. Clark really needs to find out what men like to do together, and he also needs some ideas on how to seduce a man like Lex Luthor. Considering his lack of luck in the romance department so far, he really hopes the internet can help him.

Woo Hoo! Great Job! and SNAPS for writing such a long and wonderful tale!

I loved Clark's innosence over the skink, those fairytales from childhood can stick with you even if you know there not true. =)

I also loved Lex steering the conversation back to a topic he thought would keep him out of trouble.

Loved it!

Oh thanks so much. I was nervous about posting this as it turned in a completely unexpected direction.

Yeah, I don't do short very well. I really need to work on that, but I'm glad you enjoyed the whole thing.

Yes those stories certainly can, especially when they're scary.

Yep, Lex is trying so hard to be good. I actually plan to use this as a jumping off fic for a friend's b-day later this month. It'll work perfectly for what she wants. So, Lex is soon going to have his resolve tested quite strenuously. *G*

Thanks again for letting me know you enjoyed this.

Ah! Brave Lex, resisting what he wants so much! And poor Clark, victim of an idiot's idea of a joke! Nice of Clark to protect the idiot from Lex. :)

Yay, I'm glad you enjoyed this. Yes, Clark is being a curious and nosy young man and he's getting afew ideas. *g*

Nope, this Clark is innocent of deeds, but has some knowledge. Of course, he doesn't know as much as he thinks he does either. I'm looking forward to writing the next part of this story.

Yay! Thank you for letting me know you liked it. I have a hard time picking a favorite flavor of Clark, but any type of innocent certainly heads the list. Lex to the rescue was a lot of fun to write. Thanks again for the comment.

This story was wonderful. I love a Lex in shining armor. He was so intent on protecting Clark. I also love a Clark who has a clue and one who knows how to use the internet. Hmmm I would LOVE to see what happens after he get some studying under his belt!

Well done!

Aww, thanks. I appreciate you commenting on this. I'd forgotten it, to tell the truth, and will have to move it over to my LJ at some point. I'm glad you enjoyed the boys' roles in this. I am considering continuing this. Someone on my flist wanted a story of an innocent Clark being the seducer. That request would fit a sequel to this nicely. So, you might very well see what happens after he does some studying and goes to the mansion.
